Browsing the Kickstarter blog, I came across this article showing their stats from 2011.

$19M pledged for music.

Wow.

Everyone wants to talk about how the music industry is failing. Everyone wants to talk about how poor the quality of recorded music has become. As music fans, are we actually surprised by this? As the Big Three record labels try to stop the bleeding from decline in sales, they’ve had to cut investment in artists and their recordings.

As the “old way” of doing things continues to spiral downward, I am encouraged by the Kickstarter model. It’s on its way up. And it’s giving anyone with a creative project – not only music – the chance to carry out their vision. For the supporter, it provides a feeling of connectivity, a kind of partnership in the project. The fans are like investors in a business.

And the best part? At the end of the project, you can hold something unique in your hands and know that you were a part of bringing it to fruition.

I am happy that my band, double-breasted, was one of the 11,000 successful Kickstarter projects in 2011. I can’t wait to share the new CD, Suit Yourself, with our fans on February 11th.

double-breasted’s next record will be officially released on Saturday, February 11th and we are hosting an event to celebrate. Please join us at the facilities of the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship. We’ll be in the Terrace Room.

Our friend, Shayfer James will play.
Kristy will play Debussy on the harp.
Then, double-breasted will rock out!

Doors will open at 7pm. Music will start soon after that. If you come, you’ll receive a copy of our new record, “Suit Yourself.”

A special note to Kickstarter backers:

For the past few weeks, double-breasted has filmed cover songs and posted them to YouTube. This was part of our pledge to a few of our Kickstarter backers. The deal: If you donated at a certain level, you could give us a song you’d like to hear us cover. We’ll play it for you and post it to YouTube along with a dedication.

A special thank you to those who donated to Kickstarter last year. Without you, our new record “Suit Yourself” would not have been possible. Remember, the CD release party will be on February 11th!

Here are three, now available for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Many thanks to John Pfeiffer and The Aquarian for a generous feature on double-breasted and our new song “Holiday Sparkle” this week.

Here’s one paragraph from the article:

The song is called “Holiday Sparkle” and is available on both iTunes and CDBaby. They call this song a “mood lightener,” specifically aimed at easing tensions and tirades at the ole’ family holiday get-together. What better way to shut that loud, opinionated trap on Uncle Nick than by playing music that distracts the curmudgeon and improves the room’s overall mood? Double Breasted is an educated trio that met while earning degrees in music at The College of New Jersey. They’ve managed to blend their classical backgrounds with current pop and alt-styled rock trends of today.

“Holiday Sparkle” will put a smile on your face and some fa la la’s in your holiday spirit. It’s the latest single from my band, double-breasted.

It’s available for $0.99 on the iTunes store right now!

P.S. – Don’t forget to get in on the video contest for this song!

LIRR for the Holidays

Soon, double-breasted will be releasing a new original holiday song called “Holiday Sparkle.”

Even though it will be available to purchase on iTunes, we want to give you a chance to get it for FREE. All you need to do is show us how you sparkle.

Don’t worry, we won’t make you dress up like an elf.

Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Record a short video clip of your holiday “sparkle.” Feel free to get as creative as you’d like and keep it under 30 secs. This could be anything from a beautiful snowfall to your cat using the Christmas tree ornaments as little punching bags. (If you don’t have a way to record video, just send us some pictures!)
  2. Email it to breastedx2@yahoo.com. If file size is an issue, send us an email about it and we’ll work something out.

Deadline: Sunday, December 11th

The Best Part: We will combine the best of your holiday sparkle into a music video for our new song, “Holiday Sparkle!”

It will be magical.

Even the LIRR can show some holiday sparkle. Why can’t we?

Last Saturday, I travelled south on the BQE, traversed two bridges to the NJ Turnpike, made a pit stop at Richard Stockton for car fuel and human fuel, and then headed west on the PA Turnpike. My final destination was the quaint little town of  Malvern, PA, home to one of double-breasted’s top Kickstarter backers – Michele. She threw a soiree/living room concert and also invited her band, Victoria Spaeth and the Spaeth Cadets. In addition to the house concert, one of her rewards as a Kickstarter backer was to choose a cover song she’d like us to perform.

Thanks to the magic of YouTube, you can also enjoy her cover choice. Also, it’s her favorite song of all time. (No pressure, right?)
Dave Matthews Band’s, “Lie in Our Graves

You can also watch the rest of our set, including one of my songs “Lullabye.”
